ChildLaw Coffee Talk with Christen Shafer and Adam Frudden: Students with Disabilities and the Supreme Court- An Upcoming Case- A.J.T. v Osseo Public Schools
Join us for an engaging Coffee Talk with two attorneys who represent school districts in Minnesota as they discuss a pivotal disability rights case currently pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. The case centers around a student with severe epilepsy whose condition prevents her from attending school in the mornings. Her family requested evening instruction to ensure equal access to education—raising important legal questions under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
The discussion will explore the implications of the Supreme Court’s decision, which will resolve a split among circuit courts, as well as a related 8th Circuit case under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The speakers will also share insights into their careers, including what it’s like to prepare a case for argument before the Circuit Court and the Supreme Court. Light food will be provided. We hope to see you there!
